Change You Can Believe In

Well all right then. Following the lead of Frogette's post and prompted by Cart's comment in my last post, here's my wish-list for Obama's presidency:

  • Get out of Iraq within a year, and that means all troops. If the Iraqi army can't handle the situation by now, they never will.

  • Make capturing Osama bin Laden a top priority, but recognize that using air strikes and thousands of troops to do it isn't working — it's only alienating the people there.

  • Stop using the hammer of the US military in the war on terror. It's a police action that requires good intelligence and cooperation from other countries.

  • Show some leadership and push hard for a single-payer, Medicare-for-all-style of health care. Don't try to retrofit your new plan to the inefficient, expensive, for-profit system we have now.

  • Make clean energy the engine that drives the economy in the next few decades. It's a win-win.

  • Make it clear to the Israelis that we will no longer support their brutal treatment of the Palestinians with our tax dollars.

  • Prosecute the criminals in the Cheney/Bush administration.

And if getting these things done means you don't get a second term, so be it. Don't do what the Clinton's did and put your personal ambition and ego ahead of the good of the country.

Oh I so agree with you on 3 and 7! I would add, Don't get caught with you pants down either. Democrats are famous for that stunt.

Thanks for the shout out. :-)

A great list. I would like to see the military budget slashed by a third beginning with an end to Star Wars. We neeed to stop reacting to the fears and threats presented as facts by the neocons and swallowed hook, line and sinker by American voters.

Thanks Frogette. As for the pants-thing, maybe we should require that all our male pols be neutered.

Lev, it's hard to believe Star Wars is still around after all these years. Yes, I'd say start with that. And then get rid of hundreds of the bases we have around the world. Why are we still defending Europe from the late Soviets, for example.

And thank you too, Lev. Yes, I'd start with Star Wars, and then I'd get rid of hundreds of the bases we have around the world. For example, why are we still defending Europe from the late Soviets?
