After the insane day that was Wednesday, with numerous bombs sent to highly influential Democrats and CNN headquarters, Thursday dawned with reports of three more suspected package bombs.
According to CNN, two packages addressed to former Vice President Joe Biden and one addressed to Hollywood actor Robert De Niro were intercepted. Like all the other packages, none exploded.
Both men have been highly critical of the president, with Biden once saying he’d like to beat Trump up, according to CNN, and De Niro going on F-bomb laden rants against the president and calling him the devil, according to IndieWire.
Both package bombs sent them, like the ones sent to Democrat billionaire donor George Soros and former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder earlier this week, had a return address from former Democratic National Convention chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Her name was routinely misspelled on the packages — as well as the state of Florida — and authorities do not consider her a suspect.
Democrat leaders and the mainstream media rushed at breakneck speed to blame Trump on Wednesday for the attacks on his political opponents, claiming that he’s condoned violence against them and insisting that his “hateful” rhetoric is what motivated the bomber — even though neither the bomber’s identity nor his or her motive have been discovered.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader (D-N.Y.) released a joint statement, saying that “Trump’s words ring hollow until he reverses his statements that condone acts of violence.”
CNN itself attacked the Trump administration, with CNN Worldwide President Jeff Zucker releasing a statement saying, “There is a total lack of understanding at the White House about the seriousness of their continued attacks on the media. The President, and especially the White House Press Secretary [Sarah Huckabee Sanders], should understand their words matter. Thus far, they have shown no comprehension of that.”
Trump, Sanders, and Donald Trump Jr. fired back on Thursday, dishing it right back at them.
“A very big part of the Anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News,” the president wrote on Twitter. “It has gotten so bad and hateful that it is beyond description. Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!”
Sanders told reporters Thursday morning that "There’s a big difference between comments made and actions taken. The president is certainly not responsible for sending suspicious packages to someone no more than Bernie Sanders was for his supporter shooting up a baseball practice."
After CNN’s Jim Acosta blasted the president for taking “no responsibility for his own rhetoric,” Don Jr. shot back with, “Jim, did you or your colleagues take any responsibility for your rhetoric in constantly calling my family Racists and Nazis for 2 years when my wife actually opened an exploding envelope of white powder intended for me? What about when it happend to my brother?”
