Samantha Bee has lost her first major advertiser after she labeled Ivanka Trump a “feckless c**t” on the air during her TBS show “Full Frontal With Samantha Bee.”
Autotrader became the first company to cut its ties with the controversial show following the public outcry.
“Thank you to those who reached out regarding our sponsorship of Full Frontal,” the company wrote in a statement “The comments expressed by Samantha Bee were offensive and unacceptable and do not reflect the views of our company. As a result, we have suspended our sponsorship of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.”
Bee went after Ivanka Trump, the daughter of President Donald Trump, after she posted an innocent photo of her holding her 2-year-old son.
"Ivanka Trump, who works at the White House, chose to post the second-most oblivious tweet we’ve seen this week. You know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child, but let me just say, one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices, you feckless c**t,” she said.
The backlash was severe and swift as many failed to see any comedic value in the remarks.
Bee issued a full apology on Thursday, calling her own comments “inexcusable.”
“I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it,” she said in a statement.
TBS also responded to the controversy on Thursday afternoon, but the network seemed to indicate the apology was sufficient, and no other disciplinary action would be taken.
“Samantha Bee has taken the right action in apologizing for the vile and inappropriate language she used about Ivanka Trump last night. Those words should not have been aired,” the channel tweeted. “It was our mistake too, and we regret it.”
