House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi downplayed the amazing May jobs report, indicating Democrats may be hitting a desperation point when it comes to the booming economy under President Donald Trump.
In May, the United States economy added 223,000 jobs. Additionally, the unemployment rate dropped to an 18-year low of 3.8 percent, and black unemployment fell to an all-time low of 5.9 percent.
It would be really difficult to spin those numbers — but that didn’t stop Pelosi from trying.
“May’s jobs report shows that strong employment numbers mean little to the families hit with soaring new costs under the Republicans’ watch,” Pelosi said in a statement on Friday.
She went on to accuse Trump and Republicans of pushing a “GOP tax scam” on the American people to enrich pharmaceutical executives.
“Democrats know that the American people deserve A Better Deal, with Better Jobs, Better Wages and a Better Future,” Pelosi added. “We are committed to creating millions of new good-paying jobs and raising wages, lowering the soaring cost of living for families and giving every American the tools to succeed in the 21st Century economy. Democrats will never stop fighting for the hard-working middle class families who are the backbone of our nation.”
This led Mike Huckabee to proclaim, "Please, God, let Nancy Pelosi continue to be the voice of the Democratic Party."
Fox Business host Stuart Varney said the statement had the opposite intended effect, proving that Democrats have no real plan for the economy.
"The Democrats do not have a growth plan. They don't have one. So they have to criticize the president's growth plan because it is working," Varney said on “Fox & Friends.”
