Attorney General Bill Barr has assembled a team to investigate the origins of the Obama administration’s investigation into the Trump campaign, Fox News reported.
“BREAKING: Fox News reports that Attorney General Bill Barr has assembled a team to investigate the origins of the Obama administration's FBI counterintelligence investigation into the Trump campaign,” the Daily Wire’s Ryan Saavedra tweeted.
Citing a “person familiar with the matter,” Bloomberg also reported that the DOJ will be taking a close look at the behavior of officials at the FBI and DOJ during the investigation into the Trump campaign.
“Attorney General William Barr has assembled a team to review controversial counterintelligence decisions made by Justice Department and FBI officials, including actions taken during the probe of the Trump campaign in the summer of 2016, according to a person familiar with the matter,” Bloomberg reported.
The reported continued: “This indicates that Barr is looking into allegations that Republican lawmakers have been pursuing for more than a year -- that the investigation into President Donald Trump and possible collusion with Russia was tainted at the start by anti-Trump bias in the FBI and Justice Department.”
The investigation, which has produced nothing of significance, seemed to be marred by numerous anti-Trump officials, including fired FBI Director James Comey and anti-Trump officials, some of whom exchanged text messages about the investigation being an “insurance policy” against the then-presidential candidate.
Democrats have reason to be worried.
“I am reviewing the conduct of the investigation and trying to get my arms around all the aspects of the counterintelligence investigation that was conducted during the summer of 2016,” Barr told lawmakers on Tuesday.
After two years and millions of dollars spent, Special Counsel Robert Mueller found no evidence that President Trump or his campaign colluded with Russia during the 2016 election. It looks like the shoe is about to be on the other foot.
