28-year-old Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may have gained the national spotlight with her unexpected, dynamite victory over a longtime incumbent in the Democrat primary for a New York congressional seat, but now she’s being put to the test to see how much she can really support her leftist positions.
And once again, after a viral tweet on Monday, the avowed socialist isn’t doing so well.
“I highly doubt that [Jeff] Sessions and this administration, who fought to ban Muslims from this country, value ‘religious liberty’ at all,” wrote Ocasio-Cortez about the attorney general’s announcement of a Religious Liberty Task Force.
The task force was created to help keep the U.S. court system from stepping on people’s religious freedoms. Sessions explained that he wants to make sure government employees “know their duties to accommodate people of faith,” adding that “every American has a right to believe and worship and exercise their faith in the public square.”
But rather than support the Trump administration’s efforts — and the Founding Fathers’ desires — to preserve religious liberty, Ocasio-Cortez claimed that “They believe in and prop up a false, zero-sum world where the expansion of one’s rights must come at the cost of another’s.”
Other Twitter users were quick to point out glaring falsehoods in her statement, though.
Kathy Diaz replied, “You are very weak on facts, as usual, but great on lying which is the banner of all Commmunists. The ban was not for all Muslims, only those countries that didn't have a vetting system.”
DQuesada added, “There was no attempt to ban Muslims or any religion for that matter. That is a leftist myth.”
“Putting religious liberty in quotes is your tell,” Billy Sullivan pointed out.
“You prop up a false, zero sum idea of economics so you will fit right in with zero-sum Washington,” wrote Wu-Tang Financial.
Rosie Bassett agreed with Wu-Tang Financial, writing, “With all due respect, you don't use zero sum correctly in this context. I know you have a degree in Economics, but it's time to go back and reread your textbooks. #WalkAwayFromDemocrats #OcasioCortez”
“But it’s also hilarious that a socialist is criticizing someone else’s adherence to zero-sum philosophy,” pointed out David Rattner.
