A gunman opened fire at a busy Walmart in Tumwater, Washington, on Sunday, wounding at least two people. Before the attack could go any further, an armed citizen drew his firearm and took down the shooter, according to police.
Tumwater Police Department spokeswoman Laura Wohl told the Tacoma News Tribune the suspect was shot by the armed citizen as he attempted to carjack a vehicle. The driver of the car and a 16-year-old girl were shot and wounded by the gunman.
One witness, Darren Gossler, recalled the scary incident on Twitter.
“I was in the dairy section. Heard about 5 or 6 pops. Ran out a side emergency exit and attempted to run to my car in the parking lot but heard 4 more pops in the lot,” he tweeted. “Caught a quick glimpse of a male with what appeared to be a handgun. Ducked under some cars and ran to Costco.”
Another witness, Caitlyn Wallner, said she heard “pop, pop, pop” and then a man inside the Walmart screaming, "There's a guy shooting. Everybody run!”

Police said the incident started as a report of a drunken driver nearby after a vehicle was spotted going the wrong direction. During the search, police received another call claiming a man had opened fire and was attempting to carjack a vehicle.
It goes without saying, desperate criminals can do terrible things when they are facing arrest.
Fortunately for everyone involved, a heroic citizen exercised his Second Amendment right to defend innocent civilians and took down the shooter before he could hurt anyone else.
