A Texas mom was paying for her gas at a Dallas gas station on Wednesday night when she saw her worst nightmare unfolding in the parking lot. A man got into her car with her 2 and 4-year-old sons in the back seat.
The woman’s maternal protective instincts immediately kicked in when she saw her kids in danger.
The mother first jumped in the back seat and ordered the man to get out of her car. When he refused to listen, she reached into her glove compartment and grabbed her gun.
She fired one shot, hitting the suspect in the face.
“I proceeded to jump in my backseat and told the gentleman to stop, to get out the car. He would not get out of the car. He turned around and looked at me. I reached over the armrest to get my glove compartment and that’s when I fired at him once I got the gun from my glove compartment,” she said, according to KDFW-TV.
The suspect reportedly ran the car off the road and crashed into a fence. Police arrested 36-year-old Ricky Wright and transported him to the hospital for treatment.
“He will likely face charges for kidnapping and the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle or carjacking,” KDFW-TV reported.
The mother certainly doesn’t regret her actions, though she wonders if she should have fired more than one shot.
“I’m not a killer, but I do believe in defending what’s mine,” the mom said. “I hope that woke him up.”
Well done, mom.
