Beto Trashes U.S. Back to its Very Founding, then Cruz Hits Back

For many conservatives, it’s getting harder and harder to understand how Democratic presidential candidate Robert “Beto” O’Rourke ever managed to be a serious contender when he tried to take Sen. Ted Cruz’ (R-Tx.) seat in Congress.

But it’s getting easier and easier to understand why he’s currently only favored by 2.6 percent of likely Democratic voters, according to a roundup of national polls by RealClearPolitics.

O’Rourke recently spoke at a roundtable event in Nashville, according to the Tennessean, and claimed that America was founded as racist to its very core and that nothing created in America escapes being racist.

"I know this from my home state, Texas, places that formed the Confederacy, that this country was founded on white supremacy,” he claimed. “And every single institution and structure that we have in this country still reflects the legacy of slavery and segregation and Jim Crow and suppression, even in our democracy."

Wow. One wonders why Beto wants to lead — or even admit he’s a citizen of — such a rotten country as ours.

The Washington Examiner noted that O’Rourke said this to a group of immigrants and refugees. That’s quite the way to tell people they made the right choice in coming to America.

“Welcome to America, you idiots,” the Examiner commentary writer Becket Adams quipped, paraphrasing what Beto said.

Cruz fired back on Twitter, writing, “Why does the hard Left traffic in anti-American hate?”

He continued: “Here’s what our Nation was founded on: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator w/ certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty & the pursuit of Happiness.’ Of course, it took a Civil War & heroes like Frederick Douglass & Dr. King to continue the journey, but our Founding was based in freedom.”
