The now-completed, two-year-long Mueller investigation has found another victim.
And this time it’s an Obama and Clinton administration Democrat.
Former White House Counsel Gregory Craig, who served under President Obama, is the first prominent Democrat to get in trouble as a result of the investigation into Trump-Russia collusion, the Washington Post reported.
The investigation found no collusion, but it did expose Craig’s undeclared involvement with the Russia-aligned Ukrainian government. On Thursday afternoon, Craig, 74, was charged with lying to the U.S. Justice Department, according to the New York Times.
The Times notes that Craig also had prominent positions in the Clinton administration. He went to Yale Law School with Bill and Hillary Clinton and served in the Clinton State Department.
He became an assistant and special counsel to President Clinton and later defended him against impeachment, according to Fortune. The White House counsel advises presidents on legal matters.
The former Obama advisor is accused of not registering as a foreign lobbyist for Ukraine and lying about it to the Justice Department. Craig’s lawyers claim he’s being abused by overzealous prosecutors.
“Mr. Craig is not guilty of any charge,” they insisted.
This all comes a day after U.S. Attorney General William Barr announced he’d be investigating evidence of the Justice Department’s spying on Trump’s campaign. He said he needed to explore whether or not what Obama’s Justice Department and James Comey’s FBI did was justified and legal.
That could lead to some more Democrats getting in trouble as a result of the vaunted Mueller investigation. That’s delicious news for Trump supporters.
