Despite President Trump’s executive order and House Republicans’ efforts to pass legislation to keep families together after they cross the U.S.-Mexico border illegally, attacks on Trump administration officials and anyone upholding our immigration laws and keeping our borders secure continue to increase.
Department of Homeland Security officials, especially, are receiving threats of violence, according to WTOP, while trying to maintain the sovereignty and security of our nation.
Acting deputy secretary of Homeland Security Claire Grady told her employees recently that she was seeing “heightened threats” against them and that “This assessment is based on specific and credible threats that have been levied against certain DHS employees and a sharp increase in the overall number of general threats against DHS employees.”
One specific incident involved a burnt and decapitated animal left on the porch of a DHS official in Washington, D.C., presumably put there to protest the inhumane treatment of people.
In Portland, Ore., a group of agitators that call themselves Occupy ICE PDX have camped outside the local Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) headquarters for a week and a half. ICE operates under the Department of Homeland Security.
According to Oregon Live, demonstrators have chanted slogans calling for the abolishment of ICE, blocked numerous roads around the building, and laid themselves across the hoods of cars trying to approach the facility.
Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler threw his support behind the agitators, ordering the city’s police to leave them largely alone even though they’ve been causing a major disruption for a several block radius. Federal law enforcement officers had to be sent in on Thursday to clear a path to the entrance of the building so that employees could finally go back to work after nine days of forced closure, NBC affiliate KGW8 reported.
Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen has already had to endure at least a couple angry mobs. Last week, she was forced to leave a D.C. restaurant after the Metro DC Democratic Socialists of America approached her while dining, shouting accusations at her until she walked out.
Next, demonstrators stood outside Nielsen’s Virginia home and blasted audio clips of detained illegal immigrant children crying for their parents while the secretary was inside the home, according to the New York Post.
The vitriolic tone, tactics, and persistence of the DHS protesters in spite of all the efforts the Trump administration is making to meet their demands have led many conservatives to believe that these demonstrators are primarily opportunists jumping onboard another frenzied protest of Trump.
