Celebrities are trying to get Ivanka Trump’s attention in any way they can. This time they are targeting her Instagram feed.
The idea is that anyone that Ivanka Trump follows on her Instagram will post a message with the same exact text calling for the resignation of Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen.
That way, whenever Ivanka logs in to her Instagram, it will be filled with the same posts all directed to her.
Amy Schumer, Alexa Chung, and others joined in and posted the same message.
The message reads as follows:
“Dear Ivanka, You follow me on social media. You said family separation was a ‘low point’ for you. The low point is for the separated families. You spoke in past tense. This crisis is ongoing.
“As of now, 57 children have not been reunited. A child has died after separation. Approximately 400 parents have been deported without their children.
“There have been multiple claims of sexual and physical abuse in detention. There have been psychotropic drugs administered to children in detention without parental consent. These abuses have occurred on your father’s watch and under the leadership of Secretary Nielsen.
“End these racist, inhuman and unconscionable abuses now! We demand you call for the resignation of Secretary Nielsen.”
The message refers to Ivanka Trump’s comments at a recent event in Washington where she spoke out on illegal immigration.
“That was a low point for me as well,” she said, speaking of the policy of separating children from their guardians. “I felt very strongly about that. I am very vehemently against family separation and the separation of parents and children, so I would agree with that sentiment.”
“Immigration is incredibly complex as a topic. Illegal immigration is incredibly complicated.”
Ivanka also urged Congress to come up with a solution to keep the families together.
“Congress must now act + find a lasting solution that is consistent with our shared values; the same values that so many come here seeking as they endeavor to create a better life for their families,” she posted to Twitter.
Who knows what the celebrities on Instagram were really expecting Ivanka to do, run crying to her father that her Instagram is getting spammed? I guess we’ll never know.
