Comedian Chris Rock was apparently told not to tell any jokes about “Empire” star Jussie Smollett and his alleged hate crime hoax during the 2019 NAAPC Image Awards on Saturday.
He apparently didn’t care either.
Rock mercilessly mocked Smollett during his set, even outing the awards show for trying to censor the comedians.
"They said 'No Jussie Smollett jokes,'" Rock announced while presenting an award.
"What a waste of light skin,” Rock joked. "Do you know what I could do with that light skin? That curly hair? My career would be out of here! I'd be running Hollywood.”
"What the hell was he thinking?" he added.
Rock proceeded to take away the “U” out of Smollett’s first name.
"You’re 'Jessie' from now on," Rock continued. "You don't get the 'u' no more. That 'u' was respect. You ain't getting no respect from me!”

Ironically, Smollett was still nominated for an NAACP Image Award despite his arrest and all the evidence that suggest he allegedly faked a hate crime. However, Smollett did not win the best supporting actor award. It went to "Grey's Anatomy" star Jesse Williams instead.
Though almost everyone involved in the case, from law enforcement to Chicago officials, still believe Smollett is guilty, all charges were dismissed, sparking outrage and allegations of “Hollywood privilege.”
It was also revealed that Michelle Obama’s former chief of staff intervened in the case by contacting Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx.
President Donald Trump recently announced that the FBI and DOJ would be investigating the handling of Smollett’s case.
