CNN correspondent April Ryan was caught on a hot mic on Monday making a disrespectful remark toward the White House before Sarah Sanders entered the room for the daily press briefing.
Amid the uproar over family separations at the border, Ryan was unable to hide her bias while waiting for the briefing to start.
“They’re trying t get their Jesus right,” she reportedly said.
Sanders went on to clash with several reporters over the Trump administration’s enforcement of immigration law.
Asked to respond to former First Lady Laura Bush’s assertion that the administration’s “zero tolerance” policy is “cruel” and “immoral,” Sanders said the policy was started by her own husband.
"Frankly this law was actually signed into effect in 2008 under her husband's leadership. Not under this administration," Sanders shot back.
She continued, “We’re not the ones responsible for creating this problem. We’ve inherited it," Sanders continued. "But we’re actually the first administration stepping up and trying to fix it.”
President Donald Trump has laid the blame on Democrats for "obstructing" and refusing to work with Republicans to pass comprehensive immigration reform.
"Democrats are the problem. They don’t care about crime and want illegal immigrants, no matter how bad they may be, to pour into and infest our Country, like MS-13," Trump tweeted on Tuesday. "They can’t win on their terrible policies, so they view them as potential voters!"
Trump said the U.S. must continue to arrest people who enter the country illegally, claiming that only 2,000 of the 12,000 children detained entered the country with their parents.
"We must always arrest people coming into our Country illegally. Of the 12,000 children, 10,000 are being sent by their parents on a very dangerous trip, and only 2000 are with their parents, many of whom have tried to enter our Country illegally on numerous occasions," he said.
