CNN laid off several employees from its health department just weeks after claiming that whispers of impending layoffs at the far-left network were just a “crazy rumor.”
One source told Fox News that “basically the whole division” will lose their jobs.
CNN spoke only to TVNewser, a website started by its own Brian Stelter, and immediately attempted to conduct damage control.
“As part of the normal course of business, our newsgathering team made a small restructure earlier this week that ultimately impacts 6-7 employees within CNN’s Health Unit,” a CNN spokesperson reportedly said.
However, CNN staffers are reportedly shocked by the news. That’s probably because the network claimed on May 7 that no one was losing their jobs.
“There are no mass layoffs at CNN. I have no idea where that crazy rumor came from. We have recently offered a voluntary buyout option for employees, and just over 100 people voluntarily decided to take it. That's it,” CNN executive vice president Allison Gollust said.
He continued: “We have nearly 4,000 people at CNN… and around 100 of them exercised the option for a program that was offered. That's it. Those are the facts.”
Now that CNN was forced to layoff essentially the entire health unit, employees likely won’t be too confident in the company’s claim that there will be no more layoffs.
To make matters worse, several former CNN contributors went public in exposing the network’s anti-Trump bias.
Former Georgia Congressman and CNN contributor Jack Kingston told Mediaite most real conservative contributors “got squeezed out involuntarily.”
“I was there for 2 years and was certainly willing to continue. It was clear to me in the end that the Republicans they prefer are anti-Trump Republicans,” he said.
Former CNN contributor Buck Sexton was more blunt.
“People ask me ‘how could you ever have worked at CNN?’ and I tell them, honestly, that CNN has always been Left of center, but it used to have on real conservatives and, while not friendly to them, was at least interested in a serious exchange of ideas. But Trump broke CNN,” he said.
