CNN’s Don Lemon stunned people across the political spectrum on Wednesday night when he argued it’s not Jussie Smollett’s “fault” that he has lost in the court of public opinion.
For those unaware, Smollett has been charged with a felony after he allegedly provided a false police report. He is accused of orchestrating a fake hate crime against himself, paying two Nigerian brothers $3,500 to “attack” him so he could blame it on white Trump supporters.
"In the court of public opinion, Jussie has lost. He’s lost the fight in the court of public opinion,” Lemon said. “It matters.”
Lemon added: “And he lost that because of how — and not his fault. Maybe people were — I don't know what they were saying to him. Maybe because of his representatives, who knows?”
What? It’s not Smollett’s fault that he supposedly faked a hate crime and wasted police resources? Good luck with that, Don.
Even CNN analyst Joey Jackson, who is no conservative, had to shut down Lemon’s bizarre claim.
“I don't know if it's not his fault, Don,” Jackson shot back.
“You think it's his fault? You think he was doing what he wants?” Lemon responded.

Jackson then bluntly pointed out that it was Smollett who agreed to give his bizarre interview to “Good Morning America” in which he made a number of outright false claims.
‘Well, he went out and he gave the interview,” he said. “So, understand this from — now let's talk from a defense perspective. There's two things to think about. Number one is the law and whether it makes sense legally to be out there speaking and everything else.”
Smollett faces up to 3 years in prison.
