In the wake of the mass shooting where a former Marine killed 12 people at a California bar and weeks after another deadly shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue, CNN’s Chris Cuomo had a harsh message for those who offer “thoughts and prayers” to the victims of the shootings.

“You mock those who lost loved ones because if you gave it any thought at all you would never walk away from any of these without figuring out a better way to deal with them,” Cuomo said.

“And prayer? You think leaving it to God is the answer? We pray for strength, we pray for wisdom, for resolve, but we clearly don’t want to act on any of those here, so what are you praying for?”

Cuomo also noted that only ten percent of Americans placed gun control laws as the most important issue in the country, behind healthcare, immigration, and the economy.

“No one even really ran on it,” Cuomo continued. “And if you won’t vote on it, if it’s not your priority if you can’t own that part of it, how can you convince anyone in power to care about it? You can’t.”

“We can do better. And we all have to live with doing nothing,” he concluded. “The next time is coming. And more and more, you, me, our leaders, we’re all becoming part of the problem. Think and pray on that.”

The other big news of the week was the midterm elections.

The elections turned out just about as expected, the GOP maintained control of the Senate but lost the House to the Democrats. Both Republicans and Democrats could claim a “win” depending on who you support and how you choose to look at the results.

It was a midterm that lacked huge surprises in regards to congressional races, but a few gubernatorial races had surprise winners.

President Donald Trump, of course, claimed a massive success for the Republicans and took to his trusty Twitter account to praise the GOP for their victories.

“Tremendous success tonight. Thank you to all!” Trump tweeted the night of the elections.

“Received so many Congratulations from so many on our Big Victory last night, including from foreign nations (friends) that were waiting me out, and hoping, on Trade Deals. Now we can all get back to work and get things done!”

“To any of the pundits or talking heads that do not give us proper credit for this great Midterm Election, just remember two words - FAKE NEWS!”

Trump also claimed responsibility for Republican victories, agreeing with pundits who credited Trump for GOP wins.

“There’s only been 5 times in the last 105 years that an incumbent President has won seats in the Senate in the off-year election. Mr. Trump has magic about him. This guy has magic coming out of his ears. He is an astonishing vote getter and campaigner.”

“The Republicans are unbelievably lucky to have him and I’m just awed at how well they’ve done. It’s all the Trump magic - Trump is the magic man. Incredible, he’s got the entire media against him, attacking him every day, and he pulls out these enormous wins.” Ben Stein, ‘The Capitalist Code.’”

“[David Asman] ‘How do the Democrats respond to this? Think of how his position with Republicans improves-all the candidates who won tonight. They realize how important he is because of what he did in campaigning for them. They owe him their political career.’ Thanks, I agree!”
