It appears the House Judiciary Committee plans to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress.
The desperate move comes after Special Counsel Robert Mueller and Barr agreed that President Donald Trump is not guilty of colluding with Russia during the 2016 presidential election.
“The House Judiciary Committee has taken its first formal step toward holding Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena for special counsel Robert Mueller's unredacted report on Russian interference in the 2016 election, as well as the underlying evidence,” Politico reported.
The report added: “The panel announced on Monday that it will consider a contempt citation against Barr on Wednesday. A vote of approval from the Democrat-led committee would send the measure to the full House for consideration later this month.”
Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) justified the decision by suggesting there is information being withheld in the Mueller report.
“The attorney general’s failure to comply with our subpoena, after extensive accommodation efforts, leaves us no choice but to initiate contempt proceedings in order to enforce the subpoena and access the full, unredacted report,” Nadler said.
Meanwhile, President Trump suggested it is actually Democrats who need to be under investigation.
"Also, there are 'No High Crimes & Misdemeanors,' No Collusion, No Conspiracy, No Obstruction. ALL THE CRIMES ARE ON THE OTHER SIDE, and that’s what the Dems should be looking at, but they won’t," Trump tweeted. "Nevertheless, the tables are turning!"
The longer Democrats continue to chase a debunked conspiracy theory, the lower their already slim chances get to win the 2020 election.
