Incoming socialist congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is not happy. She’s not happy one bit.
On Tuesday she blasted a story from left-leaning Politico claiming that the mainstream media outlet reported fake news about her while citing only anonymous sources.
The Politico story claimed that the 29-year-old, who will be representing a district in Queens and the Bronx, is favoring challengers who will oust incumbents in the Democratic Party — much like she did. She reportedly called Rep. Hakeem Jeffries of New York’s 8th congressional district her “highest priority” target.
“Challenging Jeffries would open an audacious new front in Ocasio-Cortez’s efforts to steer the direction of the Democratic Party, pitting her and allies against a rising-star African-American Democrat seen by some as a potential future speaker of the House,” wrote Politico reporter Laura Barrón-López.
“It’s personal for Ocasio,” said one of Barrón-López’ unnamed sources. “And she’s going to go all out to take him out.”
But Ocasio-Cortez was furious with the Politico for writing a piece about her that relied primarily on anonymous sources. She suggested that the article’s only worth was in its ability to catch bird poop at the bottom of a cage.
“One disappointment about DC is the gossip that masquerades as ‘reporting,’” she complained on Twitter “This story has: — Not a SINGLE named or verifiable source — Only ONE on-the-record comment, which is a denial.”
She added: “My dad had a name for junk articles like this: ‘Birdcage lining.’”
In a follow-up tweet she wrote, “For the record, this is the second @politico article about me in a short period of time with *0* named sources to back claims containing false information. Their articles are printed + distributed to **Congressional offices** — w/ no named sources. It’s really unfortunate.”
First Son Donald Trump Jr. had a perfect response to her, firing back: “Welcome to our world... You think that's bad? Imagine what it's like when they actually hate you.”
Ouch. Other Twitter users weighed in as well:
