The political world was stunned on Monday when it was announced that infamous anti-Trump attorney Michael Avenatti has been arrested on multiple charges, including extortion and bank fraud.
“Federal prosecutors announce charges against @MichaelAvenatti, alleging he tried to extort Nike, threatening to release damaging about the company, if Nike didn't agree to pay millions to him and a client,” CBS’s Steven Portnoy reported.
"Celebrity lawyer Michael Avenatti was arrested Monday on charges that he tried to extort up to $25 million from Nike by threatening to hurt that athletic apparel giant financially with negative publicity," CNBC reported.
However, it was Donald Trump Jr.’s response to the news that stole the show.
Good news for my friend @MichaelAvenatti, if you plead fast enough, you might just get to share a cell with Michael Cohen! #basta," Trump Jr. tweeted.
In another tweet, Trump Jr. gave the term “MAGA” a makeover: "#MAGA - Michael Avenatti Getting Arrested!!!”
You might recall that Avenatti has been claiming for months that Trump Jr. would soon be indicted. Obviously, that is not the way things turned out.
"Avenatti is also being charged by the feds in the central district of California for embezzling client money and for bank fraud. He falsified tax returns in order to obtain millions in loans from a Mississippi bank," journalist Yashar Ali reported.
In addition to being a vocal anti-Trump figure, Avenatti represented a discredited witness in the Brett Kavanaugh hearings. He also, of course, represents porn star Stormy Daniels, who recently lost her lawsuit against President Donald Trump and now owes millions.
Karma can be brutal.
