Not only did “Empire” star Jussie Smollett fail to make President Trump look bad after claiming to get attacked by Trump supporters, but now the only thing that had made him minorly famous up to that point is going by the wayside.
According to Fox News, the show’s sixth season will be its last.
“We're turning the final season of Empire into a large television event. If you look at what we're doing with Empire... we really are trying to go out guns a-blazing," said Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier.
"One of the great benefits of announcing a final season is to allow the fans to lean in and to have the ending they deserve, and that's everything we're trying to do with this iconic series,” he added.
Smollett was written out of the show part-way through season five due to the controversy surrounding his claim of being attacked — and the fact that most of the country came to believe that he made it up due to the evidence that emerged.
But it’s going to be even worse for the “Empire” star in season six. Things aren’t looking good for the possibility of him having much of a role, if any, in any of its episodes.
Asked if Smollett’s character will even get a final appearance as the show says goodbye to its fan base, Collier said, “At this point, we have no plans for that. The writer's room for next season hasn’t even gathered yet.”
Many observers felt that this meant Smollett was still experiencing at least some of the consequences of his alleged hoax despite the 16 felony counts against him being dropped. Some commenters were disappointed that other people were getting negatively impacted the consequences of Smollett’s alleged actions.
