A powerful moment between a fan and a JROTC was captured at an Atlanta Braves baseball game on Memorial Day.
At SunTrust Park, the Braves’ stadium, there is a POW-MIA Chair of Honor. This Memorial Day in Atlanta was wet and rainy meaning the Marine Corps JROTC member that stands at attention next to the Chair of Honor stood alone under the downpour.
But not for long.
A fan at the game walked over and stood at his side and held an umbrella over the soldier in the rain.
The moment was captured by the Braves and posted to Twitter with one word: “Respect.”
Another fan at the game took a picture of the interaction from a different angle. “They sacrifice so much for us, we can sacrifice for them too!” wrote the fan.
The fact that the fan bought tickets to watch the game but chose instead to shield the JROTC member from the rain with his back to the game made this a powerful moment for many and the image went viral.
The Chair of Honor was dedicated at SunTrust Park last year.
A plaque near the chair reads: “Since World War I, more than 92,000 American soldiers are unaccounted for. This unoccupied seat is dedicated to the memory of these brave men and women and to the sacrifice they made in serving this country.”
This fan wasn’t the only one to respect those who serve this past week. President Donald Trump also made sure to thank police officers in New York.
Watch his reaction to seeing the policemen in the video below.
