In a bombshell development, the FBI is reportedly “reviewing” the circumstances surrounding the dismissal of criminal charges against “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett.
“BREAKING: Two law enforcement officials briefed on the matter tell @ABC the FBI is *reviewing* circumstances surrounding dismissal of criminal charges against Jussie Smollett,” ABC7 Chicago reporter Rob Elgas reported.
He added: “ABC News is told this is not an investigation. It is a ‘review" or “inquiry.’”
Elgas also revealed that the Chicago Police Department has forwarded a copy of Smollett’s Apple iCloud account to an FBI analyst.
“As the @ABC7Chicago I-Team revealed this morning, records obtained from the Chicago police file on the Smollett case show the FBI was already involved in part of the investigation,” Elgas tweeted.
He added: “In that report it was revealed that CPD forwarded a copy of a search warrant pertaining to Jussie Smollett’s Apple iCloud account to an FBI analyst.”
America was shocked on Tuesday when it was announced that the case against Smollett had been dismissed entirely, despite the mountain of incriminating evidence against him. Prosecutors claimed his recent community service was enough to justify the dismissal of the case.
The Chicago Police Department and even Democrat Mayor Rahm Emmanuel disagree.
"At the end of the day, it is Mr. Smollett who committed this hoax, period. If he wanted to clear his name, the way to do that is in a court of law so everyone can see the evidence," Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said during a press conference.
Evidence later emerged that Michelle Obama's former chief of staff intervened in the case and contacted Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx. Given all the bizarre decisions and mysterious circumstances, the FBI is now looking into the case.
Hopefully, justice ultimately prevails and Smollett is held accountable for his actions.
