Furious Ocasio-Cortez Claims Illegal Aliens 'More American' Than Trump Supporters

After President Trump gave his primetime address Tuesday night about border security and the growing humanitarian crisis at the southern border, newly sworn-in congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) offered her own fiery rebuttal.

And she made some pretty wild claims.

“On the day of Christmas, a child died in ICE custody!” the angry congresswoman said on Rachel Maddow’s MSNBC show. “He [Trump] should not be asking for more money from an agency that has systematically violated human rights!”

“The president should really be defending why we are funding such an agency at all,” she continued. “Because right now, what we are seeing is death. Right now, what we are seeing is the violation of human rights.”

“These children and these families are being held in what are called ‘hieleras,’ which are basically freezing boxes that no person should be maintained in for any amount of time,” she added.

Her words contradict a claim by U.S. Customs and Border Protection that the rooms illegal aliens are kept in are air-conditioned to 72 degrees, not freezing, AZ Central reported.

And then, drawing no distinction between anti-legal and anti-illegal immigration sentiments, Ocasio-Cortez said, “Moreover, even if you are anti-immigrant in this country, the majority of immigrant overstays, the majority of the reason that people are undocumented is visa overstay, it’s not because people are crossing a border illegally.”

On Wednesday, Trump administration officials mentioned that up to 60,000 people a month are attempting to cross the border now. That comes to about 2,000 people a day. Half of them try to cross illegally, and the other half are otherwise inadmissible, according to the Washington Post.

“He’s trying to restrict every form of legal immigration in the United States!” she also claimed. “He’s fighting against family reunification, he’s fighting against the diversity visa lottery, he’s fighting against almost every way that people can actually legally enter this country, forcing them to become undocumented, and then he’s trying attack their undocumented status.

Trump is forcing people to travel thousands of miles and making them cross the border illegally?

In another part of the interview, she made one of the most bizarre statements of all.

“The women and children on that border seeking refuge and opportunity in the United States of America with nothing but the shirt on their backs are acting more American than any person who seeks to keep them out ever will be."

Illegal immigrants are more American than the millions and millions of citizens who want to enforce America’s laws?

Former Acting ICE Director Thomas Homan had some fiery words to lob back at Ocasio-Cortez, especially with her claim that “a child died in ICE custody.”

“It’s incredible,” Homan told “Fox & Friends” in response on Wednesday. “Every time she opens her mouth she’s wrong. She supposedly went to a college in Boston. She must be an embarrassment to that institution.”

“She needs to do her homework,” he continued. “First of all, no child died in ICE custody. That was the Border Patrol, and they did everything they could to save that child’s life. That child was in bad shape.”

“When she talks about human rights violations, does she realize that ICE has arrested and removed hundreds of human rights violators from this country, including Nazis and people that committed war crimes in certain parts of Europe?” he pointed out.

“She ought to be saying ‘thank you.’ She’s from New York. ICE agents have arrested and removed thousands of criminals from the streets of New York that were released from sanctuary jails that she supports,” Homan added.

“So a ‘thank you’ would be nice rather than the misinformation that she always puts out.”
