President Donald Trump invited American business leaders to the White House for the Pledge to America’s Workers event on Thursday — and one moment stood out from the rest.
Trump heaped praise on his guests, calling them the best in the world.
“These are the biggest. These are the best. These are the most talented,” the president said. “Today, 23 companies and associations are pledging to expand apprenticeships.”
One of the men in the room, Chris Cortez, was a representative for Microsoft.
“Mr. President, on behalf of Microsoft — 10,000 opportunities — I’m really proud to be their representative,” Cortez told the president.
Cortez then lowered his microphone and delivered a personal message to President Trump.
Watch the entire exchange in the video below:
“I served 33 years in the Marines,” Cortez said quietly to Trump.
The president exclaimed, “Whoa, that’s fantastic!”
“I served with John Kelly and Jim Mattis, and you got two one good ones,” Cortez added.
Trump adamantly agreed, shaking the Marine’s hand and telling him, “Very good. You’re right. They’re great. They’re great. Thank you very much. Thank you.”
