Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is in the fight of her political life, trying to regain her vaunted position as House Majority Leader as young progressives like incoming congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are demanding she does the impossible.

After managing to secure a place to crash in D.C. until she receives her congressional paycheck, 29-year-old Ocasio-Cortez immediately starting wreaking havoc in the Democratic establishment by protesting outside Pelosi’s office.

According to USA Today, the young self-proclaimed socialist joined a group of activists demanding that the U.S be run entirely on energy from renewable sources in just over a decade.

"This is not about me, this is not about the dynamics of any personalities," she insisted as she made a public scene at Pelosi's office. "But this is about uplifting the voice and the message of the fact that we need a Green New Deal and we need to get to 100 percent renewables because our lives depend on it."

She rallied the crowd, which demanded that Pelosi do far more than she already is to radically change how America produces energy in an incredibly short amount of time. Establishment Democrats have insisted that their current environmental committees are doing a good job, but Ocasio-Cortez’ generation, which has been taught doom-and-gloom scenarios growing up, are terrified that humanity will cease to exist if we don’t do something really drastic within 12 years.

"We're here because we're scared and we're angry," young movement leader Garrett Blad exclaimed at the protest. "We don't believe we need any more education or any more science."

"I don't want to see Miami under water," a frightened Ocasio-Cortez added. "I don't want to see my district under water. And I know that Leader Pelosi doesn't either."

Being protested by progressives for her approach to the environment isn’t a good look for Pelosi, who is battling progressives wanting to unseat her as the leader of the Democratic Party, Politico noted that by being a part of that protest a couple months before she’ll be sworn into office means that Ocasio-Cortez is “already breaking the rules” by not staying “relatively quiet” as incoming freshmen are expected to do.

This early conflict is especially ironic since many people have theorized that Pelosi helped Ocasio-Cortez win her unexpected victory against Democratic incumbent Joe Crowley, who was seen as a favorite for unseating Pelosi as House leader, according to Politico.

Meanwhile, as Ocasio-Cortez makes her way around D.C., she’s claiming that people keep mistaking her for an intern.

Actually, her youth and demeanor might have more to do with it.

According to the Huffington Post, she thrilled her Millennial Instagram followers by posting about how cute the “Congress freshman orientation” bags are, comparing D.C. to the Hogwarts school in “Harry Potter, photographing herself making mac and cheese, and flashing the black power fist in selfies.

Asked recently by Univision's Jorge Ramos how realistic it is to have "100% renewable energy by 2035" in the U.S., Ocasio-Cortez replied, “It’s as realistic as we have the courage to save future generations.”
