Young congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) perfectly illustrated on Monday the sheer panic many in her generation have grown up with after being taught their whole lives that global warming is absolutely happening, it’s absolutely all caused by human activities, and we absolutely have to do something extremely drastic and incredibly soon, otherwise we’ll all die in the very near future.
Not surprisingly, the solutions often involve putting big-government socialism — or even downright totalitarianism — into place to save us all.
According to Grabien News, a 29-year-old admitted socialist, was speaking at a Martin Luther King Jr. event in New York City as part of an interview with prolific mainstream media contributor Ta-Nehisi Coates.
“I think the part of it that is generational is that millennials and people, in Gen Z, and all these folks that come after us are looking up and we’re like, the world is gonna end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change,” the wide-eyed congresswoman declared.
They audience reacted strangely. They cheered and clapped.
“You’re biggest issue, your biggest issue is how are going to pay for it?” she continued in exasperation. “And, like, this is the war — this is our World War II.”
After being mocked for her doom-and-gloom proclamation, Ocasio-Cortez posted a link to a Vox story to back up what she said.
The Vox story, though, references a recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report and talks about drastic action needing to be taken in the next 12 years. It doesn’t mention the world ending in 12 years if we don’t, and it talks about there still being a chance to reverse things.
Fox News noted that “while a steady stream of international reports have raised alarm about climate change, they stop markedly short of predicting the end of the world.” Those who have actually made specific predictions in the past of what would have happened by now have been markedly wrong.
Conservative commentator Candace Owens gave a sarcastic reply to Ocasio-Cortez’ words, writing on Twitter, “Stressful morning. Just found out from @AOC that Adolf Hitler was simply climate change. And that I’m going to like, die in 12 years. She might be the most passionately stupid person to join our government since @MaxineWaters.”

Ocasio-Cortez’ solutions for fixing the climate always go back to her proposed Green New Deal. But rather than getting the earth out of the path of danger, the Washington Examiner condemned her plan, calling it “one of the most dangerous and extreme proposals offered in modern U.S. history.”
The conservative organization PragerU countered Ocasio-Cortez’ doomsaying prediction by posting a collection of their videos showing the opposite point of view:
