The Democratic presidential candidates may be overplaying their hand. People are starting to reject some of the socialism coming out of their mouths.

Internet giant Amazon, run by billionaire CEO and Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos, certainly didn’t like what Joe Biden had to say.

Biden was responding to a story by the New York Times claiming that Amazon pays $0 in corporate taxes when he wrote on Twitter, “I have nothing against Amazon, but no company pulling in billions of dollars of profits should pay a lower tax rate than firefighters and teachers. We need to reward work, not just wealth.”

Amazon responded with pure fire.

“We’ve paid $2.6B in corporate taxes since 2016. We pay every penny we owe,” they wrote on Twitter in reply. “Congress designed tax laws to encourage companies to reinvest in the American economy. We have. $200B in investments since 2011 & 300K US jobs. Assume VP Biden’s complaint is w/ the tax code, not Amazon.”

Commenters weighed in, many of them siding with Amazon instead of Biden.

Meanwhile, admittedly socialist candidate Bernie Sanders got mocked when he said, “I suspect that a lot of people in the country would be delighted to pay more in taxes.”
