Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) is one of several Democratic presidential candidates who have jumped on board the idea of requiring reparations to be paid to out to the black community because of historic slavery and discrimination.
But now people are wondering if she should be the one writing the first check after her own father claimed that she is a descendant of a brutal slave owner in Jamaica.
Her dad, Donald J. Harris, wrote a lengthy piece for Jamaica Global where he talked about his family’s long heritage on the island nation.
“My roots go back, within my lifetime, to my paternal grandmother Miss Chrishy (née Christiana Brown, descendant of Hamilton Brown who is on record as plantation and slave owner and founder of Brown’s Town)...” he wrote.
He also said, “The Harris name comes from my paternal grandfather Joseph Alexander Harris, land-owner and agricultural ‘produce’ exporter (mostly pimento or all-spice)...”
While PJ Media reporter Megan Fox didn’t dig up any history on Joseph Harris, she did find a whole lot of disturbing accounts about Hamilton Brown, who was quite well-known back in the early 1800s.
In a pamphlet entitled “Three Months in Jamaica,” Henry Whiteley describes Brown talking about how comfortable and happy his slaves are and how they were better off than poor people in England. But then Whiteley recounts at length the absolutely brutal beatings Brown let his overseer commit against his slaves, including women and children.
“When I saw this spectacle now for the first time exhibited before my own eyes, with all its revolting accompaniments, and saw the degraded and mangled victim writhing and groaning under the infliction, I felt horror-struck,” Whiteley wrote about witnessing the beating of one of Brown’s slaves. “I trembled and turned sick.”
Kamala’s dad didn’t mention anywhere about his family be descended from any slaves.
This sickening history is long in the past and should not matter as part of Kamala’s identity now, except that she, like many other Democrats, have pushed identity politics to the forefront. Heritage and ethnicity have become all-important as liberals claim that people can’t truly understand the needs of other people who don’t look like them or come from the same place.
And if Michelle Obama’s “slave blood” mattered to liberals back with President Obama was running for office, why shouldn’t Kamala’s “slave owner blood”?
“Since Harris has decided to embrace reparation theology, shouldn't she lead by example?” Fox asked. “If we had a curious or intellectually honest press, they would be lined up outside her door to find out if she's going to send reparations checks to the descendants of her family's slaves.”
Recently, Kamala’s dad also slammed his daughter for joking during an interview that her Jamaican family is full of marijuana users.
"My dear departed grandmothers, as well as my deceased parents, must be turning in their grave right now to see their family’s name, reputation and proud Jamaican identity being connected, in any way, jokingly or not with the fraudulent stereotype of a pot-smoking joy seeker and in the pursuit of identity politics," Donald reportedly said.
