A mob of left-wing activists took Rep. Maxine Waters’s (D-Calif.) advice on Tuesday and harassed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and his wife as they were leaving an event at Georgetown University.
The one thing the activists didn’t count on was the reaction from McConnell’s wife, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao.
Rather than ignoring them, Chao got right in their faces and fought back.
Watch the video of the tense exchange below:
"Why are you separating families, huh?" Why are you separating families?” One protester shouted.
"Why don’t you leave my husband alone! You leave my husband alone,” Chao shot back.
A second protester repeatedly shouted, “How does he sleep at night?”
But it will be the image of Chao putting her finger in the activists’ faces that people will remember.
The targeted harassment comes just days after Waters called on her supporters to harass and confront members and supporters of the Trump administration anywhere they go.
"If you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd, and you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere,” Waters said.
It seems some are taking her words to heart.
Since then, Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) introduced a measure in the U.S. House to formally censure Waters. The Democrat has also apparently been reported to the Secret Service over her remarks.
