In what may be a classic case of liberal double-standards, a group of actors came out with a statement Monday in defense of Hollywood director who tweeted a string of absolutely grotesque and horrifying pedophilia jokes several years ago. Meanwhile, President Trump-supporting actress Roseanne is struggling to find any place she’s still allowed to be in the industry.
Incredibly popular actor Chris Pratt, along with all the other cast members playing the main characters in Disney’s wildly successful “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise, wrote and signed an explanation of why they support director James Gunn while not supporting his jokes.
Gunn, who directed the first two volumes of the Marvel comic book movies, was recently fired by Disney while directing “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3,” due out in 2020, according to Deadline Hollywood.
His offensive tweets from 2009 to 2012 — at least 15 of them — range from rape jokes to pedophilia jokes involving boys and girls. They’re enough to make any sane person want to vomit. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Gunn also wrote a very lewd and graphic series of blog posts considered by many to be very sexist and homophobic. He has since apologized for the jokes and the blog posts.
In their statement in support of him being reinstated as the “Guardians of the Galaxy” director, the cast wrote, “We fully support James Gunn.”
“We cannot let this moment pass without expressing our love, support, and gratitude for James,” they said, adding that, “We are not here to defend his jokes of many years ago but rather to share our experience having spent many years together on set making Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2.”
They detailed their belief that he is a good person who they “all know, trust, and love.” Interestingly enough, though, Gunn was hired to direct the first “Guardians” movie in Sept. 2012, according to Collider. That was around the time he was still tweeting those disturbing jokes.
It was interesting to many people to see Hollywood liberals circle around Gunn for his extremely offensive comments while continuing to deride actress Roseanne Barr, whose relatively mild comments have made her an absolute pariah.
Not everyone agreed with Pratt for posting a statement defending Gunn. Pratt, interestingly enough, is actually one of the few well-known politically conservative actors in Hollywood. The rest of the “Guardians” cast, however, is not known for being outspoken in support of conservatism.
