Lieberman Demolishes Ocasio-Cortez with Ugly Truths About Socialism, Begs Vote for Joe

Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, 28, may be a fast-rising star in the Democratic Party after her stunning victory in a New York congressional race, but some leaders in her own party are trying to snuff her out, fearing that she is far too liberal even for Democrats and doesn’t know enough about what’s she’s talking about, especially after an embarrassing interview regarding Israelis and Palestinians.

Former U.S. senator Joe Lieberman, who is an Independent but once ran as failed Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore’s running mate, demolished Ocasio-Cortez in a Wall Street Journal piece and called for voters to choose Democrat Rep. Joe Crowley, who Ocasio-Cortez defeated in June. Democrat leaders had big plans for progressive Crowley, and his name will still appear on the ballot in November under the Working Families Party, even though he claims he is not campaigning, Fox News reported.

“[House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi] knows that if Democrats are to regain a majority, it will be by winning swing districts with sensible, mainstream candidates. Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is making that task harder across America,” Lieberman wrote, also calling Ocasio-Cortez someone who “seems likely to hurt Congress, America, and the Democratic Party.”

“Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is a proud member of the Democratic Socialists of America, whose platform, like hers, is more Socialist than Democratic,” he continued, hammering the nail right on the head. “Her dreams of new federal spending would bankrupt the country or require very large tax increases, including on the working class.”

In the widely watched ad, Ocasio-Cortez advocated for “Medicare coverage for all, tuition-free public college, and federal jobs guarantee.” She also stands for increased gun restrictions, guaranteed taxpayer-funded housing, the ending of private prisons, and the abolishing of ICE.

Some people are declaring her as the future of the Democratic Party, but Lieberman warned, “Her approach foresees government ownership of many private companies, which would decimate the economy and put millions out of work.”

He also scorched the socialist for a recent interview where she said Israel was unjustly occupying Palestine. Asked to clarify what she meant, Ocasio-Cortez stumbled around, looking like a liberal college student caught in a Campus Reform man-on-the-street interview, trying to make up a good answer in order to save face but able to only recall bits and pieces of liberal talking points.

“Ms. Ocasio-Cortez didn’t speak much about foreign policy during the primary, but when she did, it was from the DSA [Democratic Socialist of America] policy book — meaning support for socialist governments, even if they are dictatorial and corrupt (Venezuela), opposition to American leadership in the world, even to alleviate humanitarian disasters (Syria), and reflexive criticism of one of America’s great democratic allies (Israel),” Lieberman stated.

He concluded by begging, “For the sake of Congress and our country, I hope Joe Crowley will give all the voters of his district the opportunity to re-elect him in November — and I hope they find his name on their ballots.”

Democrats are starting to slam Ocasio-Cortez, too, complaining that she’s making enemies in her own party and creating division. Some are longing for her campaign to come crashing down, according to The Hill.

“Meteors fizz out,” said Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.). “What she will learn in this institution is that it’s glacial to begin with, and therefore no matter how far you rise, that’s just how far you will ultimately get your comeuppance.”
