Democrats are stunned after Louisiana’s Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards went rogue and signed a “heartbeat” abortion bill into law, breaking with his party’s pro-abortion extremism.
“I know there are many who feel just as strongly as I do on abortion and disagree with me — and I respect their opinions," Edwards said in a statement.
He continued: "I call on the overwhelming bipartisan majority of legislators who voted for it to join me in continuing to build a better Louisiana that cares for the least among us and provides more opportunity for everyone,” Edwards said in a statement.
“The fetal heartbeat abortion ban applies to pregnancies as early as six weeks, before some woman even know they are pregnant and include exceptions only for 'medically futile' instances where the mother's health is at risk or the baby is stillborn," Fox News reported. "The bill necessitates an ultrasound to confirm pregnancy and does not include exceptions for women who were victims of rape and incest.”
The report added: “The bill's passage makes Louisiana the fifth state, after Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Ohio, to pass a fetal heartbeat act in its state, which challenges the constitutional right to an abortion guaranteed by the Supreme Court's 1973 ruling in Roe v. Wade.”
Louisiana is just the latest state to take a stand for life. Mississippi, Kentucky, Ohio, and Georgia have also passed “heartbeat” abortion laws to protect unborn children.
A federal judge recently blocked Mississippi’s abortion law by injunction, leaving the law in limbo for now.
President Trump is not running from the issue. He recently labeled Democrats "the Party of late term abortion, high taxes, Open Borders and Crime!"
Do you agree with Trump?
