Supporters of Maxine Waters (D-CA) burned and stomped on a flag they stole off a passing truck on Thursday outside her California office.
The group of demonstrators had planned on confronting a far-right group called the Oath Keepers, but when the Oath Keepers did not arrive, they protested anyway.
Some demonstrators held “Resist!” signs while others chanted, “Black power!”
During the protest, a truck with an American flag drove by but was stopped by the crowd. The group stole the flag off the vehicle as it drove off.
The flag was quickly set on fire to cheers from the crowd. “This is not the American flag, this is their flag!” shouted a demonstrator.
Watch it all unfold in the video below.
No one was injured and no arrests were made.
Last month, Waters called for liberal supporters everywhere to harass members of Trump’s administration whenever they are seen in public outside the Wilshire Federal Building.
Hear what she had to say in the video below.
“For these members of his Cabinet who remain and try to defend him, they are not going to be able to go to a restaurant, they are not going to be able to stop at a gas station, they aren't going to be able to shop in a department store,” Waters said.
“The people are going to turn on them, they are going to protest, they are going to absolutely harass them,” she concluded.
Waters later responded to her comments on MSNBC. “I did not call for harm for anybody,” said Waters. “The president lied again.”
“But let’s not talk about that. Let’s focus on the children. That’s what this is all about,” she continued. “It is about the fact that children have been snatched from their parents’ arms.”
“They don’t really say I’m out of line. What they do is try to find a way talk about civility without attacking me or anybody else as the leader of the Democratic Party, I expect that she would do everything that she could to make sure nobody believes that Democrats are out here harassing anybody or causing any violence,” Waters said in regards to Nancy Pelosi’s denouncing of Water’s comments.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called Waters’ behavior “unacceptable” in a post on Twitter.
