South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg has run his Democratic presidential campaign on being openly gay and sitting not as far left as many of his fellow candidates.
But now he’s released 27 policy proposals proving that he’s just as crazy of a progressive as the rest of them.
Buttigieg has slipped significantly in the polls, sinking from fourth to fifth among the 20-plus Democrats running for the nomination. He sits below Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Kamala Harris, according to a roundup of major polls compiled by RealClearPolitics.
He initially rose to popularity, due largely to his likeability and mysterious nature. But he may be revealing so much of what he believes now as a desperation move to bolster his faltering polling numbers.
It could end up being a terrible mistake, though, as people now find things to dislike about him. Just take a look at what he’s proposing.
According to USA Today, his policies range from Medicare for all to a “military-style assault weapons” ban to free college to reparations to the Green New Deal. Reporter Sahil Kapur of Bloomberg News released a list of the big ones.
The Hyde Amendment bars the use of taxpayer money to pay for abortions, in most cases. Washington Examiner reporter Julio Rosas zeroed in on Buttigieg’s strict gun control proposals.
In other words, this Democratic candidate is as far left as the rest.
Washington Free Beacon writer Charles Fain Lehman pointed out that, “If someone had run on this platform four years ago, they would have been to the left of Bernie Sanders.”
Thank you for revealing to the public exactly what you believe, Mayor Pete. It’s very helpful.
