Liberals bared their fangs at First Lady Melania Trump after she revealed this year’s White House Christmas display. But in a speech to Liberty University students on Wednesday, she made it clear that she’s not letting them get her down.
The first lady has increasingly become the target of wrath from her husband’s haters, even though she tends to concentrate on bipartisan efforts. After getting criticized for her silver and white display last year, Melania went with something more traditional.
But intent to find anything to criticize about her creative handiwork, they zeroed in on a striking hall display of Christmas trees constructed out of thousands of red berries. Creating festive trees out of berries is nothing new, but liberals cruelly joked that she had dyed the trees in the blood of migrant children.
Someone went as far as to put bonnets on her red Christmas trees, signifying the iconic garbs from “The Handmaid’s Tale” TV show, which is about an alternate reality where women live under extreme oppression in America.
But Melania dismissed the haters during a panel discussion at Liberty University, where she also spoke with students about fighting the nation’s opioid crisis, according to The Hill.
Asked by the panel about the trees, the first lady replied, "We are in 21st century and everybody has a different taste. I think they look fantastic."
"I hope everybody will come over and visit it,” she continued. “In real life, they look even more beautiful.”
