First Lady Melania Trump made a surprise visit to a migrant detention center in McAllen, Texas, on Thursday and offered her assistance to help children reunite with their families.
"I'm here to learn about your facility, in which I know you house children on a long-term basis. And I'd also like to ask you how I can help these children to reunite with their families as quickly as possible,” the first lady said.

The first lady went on a full tour of the McAllen facility:
One official at the facility told the first lady that children are allowed to communicate with their families every week.
"The children are allowed to communicate with their family twice a week. They get a 10-minute phone call," the staffer said.
The detention of illegal immigrant children has become a hot-button issue after President Donald Trump's administration announced its "zero tolerance" immigration policies.
President Trump signed an executive order to prevent the separation of immigrant families at the border. However, the president said America's immigration would remain just as tough on people who enter the country illegally.
Further, Trump is still calling on Congress to do their jobs and pass comprehensive immigration reform.
"Nobody's had the political courage to take care of it, but we're going to take care of it," he said during the signing of the executive order.
