First Lady Melania Trump’s parents are officially American citizens.
President Donald Trump’s in-laws, Viktor and Amalija Knavs, were reportedly granted citizenship on Thursday, according to the family’s immigration attorney.
"It went well and they are very grateful and appreciative of this wonderful day for their family,” the attorney, Michael Wildes, told CNN in a statement.
Viktor and Amalija Knavs are a great example of how legal immigration should work.
The couple first applied for green cards as citizens of Slovenia. They then lived and worked in the United States, becoming productive members of society as they worked toward the dream of getting full citizenship.
On Thursday, that dream came true.
"I can confirm they are green card holders and legal permanent residents of the United States," Wildes said.
“Viktor and Amalija Knavs, 73 and 71 years old, respectively, are retired, and they maintain regular contact with the Trump family, often traveling with the first family on trips to Mar-a-Lago and Bedminster, New Jersey,” CNN reported.
Melania Trump was also born in Slovenia and legally immigrated to the United States, marrying Donald Trump and ultimately becoming first lady.
What a great legal immigration story!
