Negotiations are still ongoing between the network and Megyn Kelly, but NBC announced on Friday that her 9 a.m. talk show has been canceled.

"Next week, the 9 a.m. hour will be hosted by other 'Today' co-anchors,” said NBC in a statement. "Megyn Kelly Today is not returning."

"Megyn remains an employee of NBC News and discussions about next steps are continuing," said NBC’s attorney Bryan Freedman.

While her departure from NBC News is not yet official, it is a foregone conclusion between both parties, according to multiple sources.

There are multiple factors as to why NBC canceled Kelly’s show, but the main reason as of this moment are the comments she made about blackface Halloween costumes earlier this week.

However, many people believe that NBC had been disappointed with her show’s poor ratings and was looking to find a way to end the show and Kelly’s blackface comments were just the excuse they needed.

This news comes after Kelly gave an emotional apology on-air, insisting that she had learned her lesson after the intense backlash she received for her blackface comments.

Here is a clip of what she had to say about blackface Halloween costumes that got her into trouble:

"I want to begin with two words, I'm sorry,” said Kelly in her apology. “The country feels so divided and I have no wish to add to that pain and offense. I believe this is a time for more understanding, more love, more sensitivity, and honor. Thank you for listening and for helping me listen too."

The apology was enough to bring the audience of “Megyn Kelly Today” to their feet with cheers and applause, even from a number of African-American audience members.

Kelly’s apology may be too late for NBC, however, as they already may have been disappointed with her show’s low ratings and her blackface comments could have been the final straw.

According to TMZ, Kelly has also been dropped by CAA, her talent agency, and she has hired an attorney to work out the details of her departure as she had signed a $69 million contract with NBC.
