On Friday, President Donald Trump will announce a new proposal aimed at protecting life with the Title X Family Planning Grant Program.
The core component of this proposal is making it clear that abortion is not considered a part of family planning.
This new proposal updates regulations to ensure that taxpayer money is not used for programs where abortion is included as a part of family planning.
Planned Parenthood itself will not be defunded by this new proposal as long as taxpayer funds are not used for abortions.
This latest proposal is a part of the Trump Administration’s policy to protect unborn children as well as make sure taxpayers don’t support the abortion industry.
“Industry giants like Planned Parenthood perform more than 320,000 abortions every year,” said Congresswoman Diane Black. “Abortion is not family planning.”
More than $1.5 billion in tax dollars were used to fund US abortion providers over a three-year period, according to the Government Accountability Office.
“The proposal would require a bright line of physical as well as financial separation between Title X programs and any program (or facility) where abortion is performed, supported, or referred for as a method of family planning,” said White House officials.
“These are human beings. They’re babies. They have a heartbeat. They have brainwaves. They may be in the womb, but they are humans and they need to be treated that way,” said former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. “They need to have due process before they’re unceremoniously put to death in the form of abortion.”
