Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) made another blunder last Friday when she tried to compare President Trump’s border wall to Germany’s Berlin Wall.
“No matter how you feel about the wall, I think it’s a moral abomination,” she said about Trump’s wall in a social media video, according to Fox News.
“I think it’s like the Berlin Wall,” she claimed. “I think it’s like any other wall designed to separate human beings and block out people who are running away from the humanitarian disasters. I just think it’s wrong.”
People were quick to educate the young socialist congresswoman on the differences, including evolutionary behavioral scientist Gad Saad, he wrote on Twitter, “Dear @AOC: Let me serve as your private professor here. The Berlin Wall was meant to keep people inside the socialist/communist utopia and stop them from fleeing to the decadent capitalist west. So as the New Millennial Lenin, you might want to refrain from using this example.”
Georgetown adjunct professor Ron Christine piped up, too, writing, “I don't generally don't like being critical of people. That said, @AOC comparing a border wall to the Berlin Wall has to be one of the most ignorant things I've heard in a while. Congresswoman? The Soviets used that wall to trap people and would shoot to kill to keep them in.”
Many others also weighed in:
Meanwhile on Tuesday, longtime Democrat Barney Frank, who served as a U.S. representative for Massachusetts, trashed the plan that encapsulates Ocasio-Cortez’ hopes and dreams for America.
"I think the Green New Deal would be loser," Frank said, according to CNBC. "There's an argument that you don't destabilize a society by doing too much change at once."
He gave her some advice for how to trick people into accepting her radical ideas, saying, "There are people who are skeptical of government. People like me who do want to expand the government role in some areas need to understand that we need to show how that works. You have to do it in pieces. And then as you show that it worked, you build on that."
