Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) made another attempt to address religion in America Monday evening and floundered very, very badly — as she has been lately.
The socialist congresswoman spoke out when she was attending a Ramadan event hosted by Muslim congresswomen Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Muslim congressman André Carson (D-Ind.), according to The Hill.
Ocasio-Cortez first claimed that Jews, Baptists, and Catholics worship the same God as Muslims do, according to Relevant Magazine.
“When Ilhan prays, when I pray, when Rashida prays, when Ayanna [Pressley] prays, when Jan Schakowsky prays, I believe those prayers all go to the same place — up,” she said, referring to her fellow Muslim, Baptist, and Jewish congresswomen and the Catholic faith she identifies with.
She also accused Republicans of opposing “all progress in this country by pitting communities against one another that have never and have no business being pitted against one another.”
Then she gave a few examples, saying the GOP “try to import that division — women against the LGBT community, Jew against Muslim, immigrant versus citizen — in order to make sure that none of us get our interests or our rights advanced.”
Republicans are specifically pitting women against people who identify as LGBT? Republicans are the ones who created the 4,000-year-old tension between Muslims and Jews? The GOP tries to get legal immigrants and citizens to oppose each other?
AOC failed to defend her ludicrous statements. But it was certainly not the first time she displayed her ignorance recently about major religions in America — or her distaste for Christianity.
A few days earlier, she appeared to describe evangelical Christianity as a “creepy theological order” led by President Donald “Mad King” Trump.
“What angers me about the GOP’s attempts to turn the United States into a far-right Christian theocracy is how dishonest they are about it,” she wrote on Twitter. “At least be forthright about your desire to subvert and dismantle our democracy into a creepy theological order led by a mad king.”
Also, note, that in the tweet above that one she claimed that “The GOP doesn’t care about babies at all — especially brown, black, or poor ones.”
It’s amazing to think of how many pro-life mothers actually hate babies. Who knew?
Ocasio-Cortez’ biblical knowledge got blasted the day before when she tried to use the Scriptures to back up one of her proposals while simultaneously claiming that conservative Christians use their faith solely for the purpose of punishing “women + queer people.”
