House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has lost control of the Democratic Party and is resisting efforts to begin impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump.
“Reps. David Cicilline (D-R.I.), Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), and Joe Neguse (D-Colo.) — all members of the Democratic leadership — pushed to begin impeachment proceedings during a leadership meeting in Pelosi's office, said the sources,” Politico reported.
The report added: “Pelosi and Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) — one of her key allies and a member of leadership herself — rejected their calls, saying Democrats' message is being drowned out by the fight over possibly impeaching Trump.”
At one point, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) reportedly stood up and claimed impeaching Trump was the right thing to do.
"This is not about politics, it's about what's best for the American people," he reportedly said.
However, Pelosi and other top Democrats clearly understand the big risk they would be taking by trying to impeach President.
Trump without evidence of wrongdoing. The unpopular move would likely propel Trump to victory in 2020.
Plus, the GOP-controlled Senate would never follow suit, making the House’s action practically meaningless.
Meanwhile, President Trump has been openly mocking the Democrats as they spin out of control.
“Why are the Democrats not looking into all of the crimes committed by Crooked Hillary and the phony Russia Investigation? They would get back their credibility,” Trump tweeted on Monday. “Jerry Nadler, Schiff, would have a whole new future open to them. Perhaps they could even run for President!”
The Democrats are in serious trouble in 2020.
