President Donald Trump and the White House reportedly wanted to bus the massive number of illegal immigrants pouring into the country to so-called “sanctuary cities.”
“Trump administration officials have proposed transporting detained immigrants to sanctuary cities at least twice in the past six months — once in November, as a migrant caravan approached the U.S. southern border, and again in February, amid a standoff with Democrats over funding for Trump’s border wall,” the Washington Post reported.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) district in San Francisco was one of the proposed sites to off-load the illegals. Pelosi has bragged about San Francisco’s “sanctuary city” status, but was furious over the plan.
"The extent of this administration's cynicism and cruelty cannot be overstated," said Ashley Etienne, a spokeswoman for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
She continued: "Using human beings — including little children — as pawns in their warped game to perpetuate fear and demonize immigrants is despicable.”
Why is Pelosi upset? Why doesn’t she want all of the illegal immigrants in her district?
In statements to the Washington Post, the White House and DHS both confirmed the plan was floated, but said it was never accepted.
“This was just a suggestion that was floated and rejected, which ended any further discussion,” the White House said in the statement.
Trump has been consistent on his views on sanctuary cities, which refuse to cooperate with federal immigration officials.
“These outrageous sanctuary cities are grave threats to public safety and national security,” Trump previously said. “Each year, sanctuary cities release thousands of known criminal aliens from their custody and right back into the community. So they put them in, and they have them, and they let them go, and it drives you people a little bit crazy, doesn’t it, huh?”
Should Trump revisit his sanctuary city proposal?
