House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) admitted on Tuesday what the rest of the country realized a long time ago — they simply don’t have any justifiable cause to impeach President Donald Trump.
"This isn’t about Democrats or Republicans. It’s about saving our democracy,” Pelosi said during a call with House leaders on Tuesday morning. “If it is what we need to do to honor our responsibility to the Constitution – if that’s the place the facts take us, that’s the place we have to go.”
The “facts” as they stand today are on President Trump’s side when it comes to impeachment proceedings, Pelosi admitted.
"We don’t have to go to articles of impeachment to obtain the facts, the presentation of facts,” she added.
However, she threw a bone to the extremists in her party who are calling for impeachment proceedings, including socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), saying future investigations could eventually result in impeachment.
But that doesn’t mean Pelosi plus to stop obstructing the president at every turn. In a letter to Democrats, Pelosi indicated that she plans on spending the months leading up to the election investigating Trump.
“While our views range from proceeding to investigate the findings of the Mueller report or proceeding directly to impeachment, we all firmly agree that we should proceed down a path of finding the truth,” the House Speaker wrote. “It is also important to know that the facts regarding holding the president accountable can be gained outside of impeachment hearings.”
AOC recently advocated for articles of impeachment against Trump, announcing that she could support Rep. Rashida Tliab's resolution.
"Mueller’s report is clear in pointing to Congress’ responsibility in investigating obstruction of justice by the President," she tweeted. "It is our job as outlined in Article 1, Sec 2, Clause 5 of the US Constitution."
The socialist added: "As such, I’ll be signing onto @RashidaTlaib’s impeachment resolution."
In reality, the Mueller report cleared Trump of any "collusion" with Russia and found no evidence proving he obstructed justice. Democrats just can't let it go.
