President Donald Trump’s administration introduced a new rule on Friday to partially defund Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers by stripping their Title X funds.
The rule hits abortion providers in their pockets hard by “requiring the physical and financial separation of Title X projects and facilities from programs and facilities where abortion is a method of family planning.”
The rule goes into effect in just 60 days.
Pro-life groups celebrated the decision.
“The Title X program was not intended to be a slush fund for abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood, which violently ends the lives of more than 332,000 unborn babies a year and receives almost $60 million a year in Title X taxpayer dollars,” Susan B. Anthony List said in a statement.
Live Action President Lila Grace Rose echoed the sentiment, praising the Trump administration for standing for life.
“Title X has been a slush fund for abortion giant Planned Parenthood ... This is a crucial step to begin disentangling some of the hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars that help fuel Planned Parenthood's abortion operations annually,” she said.
“It is absolutely appropriate that the new Title X regulations take into account the difference between abortion and healthcare,” March for Life said in its own statement. “Abortion is neither healthcare nor family planning which is why the Title X program has no business funding it.”
Abortion advocates were predictably outraged at the decision and claimed "lives were at stake."
