President Donald Trump spoke at the Susan B. Anthony List 11th Anual Campaign for Life Gala on Tuesday and touted his administration’s pro-life policies.
“When I ran for office, I pledged to stand for life, and as president, that’s exactly what I have done and I have kept my promise and I think everybody here understands that totally,” said Trump.
Last week, Trump announced a new proposal that updated regulations involving Planned Parenthood to ensure that taxpayer money is not used for programs where abortion is included as a part of family planning.
“The proposal would require a bright line of physical as well as financial separation between Title X programs and any program (or facility) where abortion is performed, supported, or referred for as a method of family planning,” said White House officials.
“For decades, American taxpayers have been wrongfully forced to subsidize the abortion industry through Title X federal funding, so today we have kept another promise,” Trump said at the gala. “My administration has proposed a new rule to prohibit Title X funding from going to any clinic that performs abortions.”
Trump used this opportunity to call on pro-life supporters to “vote for life” this upcoming midterm election cycle.
The President called out conservative-leaning states with Democratic senators, such as Montana, North Dakota, Missouri, and Michigan who “all voted against the 20-week bill and in favor of late-term abortion.”
“Your vote in 2018 is every bit as important as your vote in 2016,” he said.
Since he took office, Trump has made several policy changes to make good on his pro-life campaign trail promises. Along with defunding abortion providers, he reinstated the Mexico City Policy which banned international abortion funding, supported the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, and nominated a pro-life justice, Judge Neil Gorsuch, for the Supreme Court.
