Something caught President Trump’s attention last week that he couldn’t just ignore. Trump noticed the ratings for the cable news networks and saw that one network stood head and shoulders above the rest.
Surprise, surprise, it wasn’t CNN – it was Fox News.
As usual, President Trump took to Twitter to praise Fox News and slam the other networks for their “Fake News” coverage.
“Wow, Fox and Friends is blowing away the competition in the morning ratings. Morning Joe is a dead show with very few people watching and sadly, Fake News CNN is also doing poorly,” Trump tweeted. “Too much hate and inaccurately reported stories - too predictable!”
The Fox morning show has around 50% more viewers than MSNBC and three times more than CNN’s morning show.
The month of July marked the 25th month in a row that the Fox News Channel was the most watched cable news network, averaging 2.4 million viewers.
During primetime hours, CNN was behind networks like HGTV, USA, the History Channel, the Discovery Channel, the Hallmark Channel, and others.
Unsurprisingly, MSNBC’s Morning Joe hosts took offense to Trump's jabs.
“If it’s true nobody is watching us anymore, we know based on your staff members that we have at least one viewer every morning, and we thank you, Donald,” said host Joe Scarborough.
“We can always count on you. How are you doing? Get some sleep. We’re sad for you. He’s not doing well,” he continued.
Scarborough then tried to turn the conversation to Russia and Robert Mueller, saying that Trump’s lawyers have little confidence in his ability to handle a full-length interview with Mueller.
“If I were Trump, I’d be insulted,” said Scarborough.
Mika Brzezinski continued on the topic.
“It appears – and many would deduce – that his lawyers think he’s a moron, and his tweets indicate that he’s very afraid, tweeting all night long, tweeting about morning shows,” said Brzezinski.
“I mean, this is unhinged behavior and someone who keeps tweet being this investigation as he could push it away with I don’t know, trying to manipulate the press.”
Sounds like the Morning Joe could use an actual morning Joe to help with their salty grumpiness.
