In the aftermath of a Colorado school shooting that took the life of one heroic student and injured eight more, new details are emerging about the two suspected shooters.
Local authorities say that 18-year-old Devon Erickson, a senior at STEM School Highlands Ranch, opened fire at his school in Highlands Ranch, Colol., just a few miles from the 1999 Columbine High School massacre, according to ABC Denver. The 20th anniversary of that horrific shooting was just a couple weeks ago.
Eight students were injured at the STEM school Tuesday afternoon, and one student died while lunging at one of the attackers, giving classmates a few vital seconds to run away from the danger, the New York Times reported.
Also identified as a suspect is female minor named Maya “Alec” Elizabeth McKinney, the Denver Post reported. Investigators initially identified her as “small young person” who they thought was male “by appearance,” according to NBC News.
According to multiple ABC Denver sources, McKinney is in the process of transitioning to male. Little else has been said about her.
Much more is known about Erickson and his views on politics and Christianity.
Erickson has a few traffic violations but no other criminal record. A car towed from a home believed to be linked to him had “[F-bomb] society” spray-painted on the side. Heavy.com also reported satanic symbols painted on the car.
Research of his social media accounts revealed that Erickson is a young community actor who enjoyed music and video games, among other things, and once had a rainbow filter over his Facebook profile photo to celebrate gay pride. His Instagram profile picture included satanic imagery.
Online, Erickson was very vocal in his hatred for Christians and President Trump. He shared “Late Night with Seth Meyer” videos critical of Trump and an Occupy Democrats video praising President Obama.
A couple years ago, according to Heavy, he wrote a Facebook post that read: “You know what I hate? All these Christians who hate gays, yet in the bible, it says in Deuteronomy 17:12-13, if someone doesn’t do what their priest tells them to do, they are supposed to die. It has plenty of crazy stuff like that. But all they get out of it is ‘ewwwwww gays.'”
