According to Fox News, U.S. Customs and Border Protection sent out a letter in late June describing what they saw de Blasio and his New York Police Department security detail do during his attempted inspection of an illegal alien holding facilities.
De Blasio and his team were reportedly trying to get into a Tornillo, Texas border holding facility for immigrant children near El Paso on June 21. They were denied entry.
Then they were spotted just south of the facility taking photos in an off-limits area. According to the letter, when questioned by a Border Patrol agent about how they’d gotten into the area, they pointed toward Mexico, indicating that they’d illegally crossed the border back and forth to get to that side of the facility.

When the agent ordered them to stay put while he got his supervisor, de Blasio and his entourage reportedly disobeyed him and high-tailed it back over the Mexico border.
De Blasio’s office released a statement after the letter got released to the public, defending his actions.
"The Mayor crossed the border with the direct approval and under the supervision of the border patrol supervisor at this port of entry. Any suggestion otherwise is a flat out lie and an obvious attempt by someone to attack the Mayor because of his advocacy for families being ripped apart at the border by the Trump Administration,” mayoral spokesman Eric Phillips said.
The Associated Press notes that de Blasio is a harsh critic of President Trump and his efforts to secure the border the protect Americans. De Blasio is a staunch Democrat how often weighs in on national politics.
